ST. PAUL, Minn., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- U S WEST (NYSE: USW) and USA Baseball are teaming up to bring Olympic baseball to 11 states. The "Red, White and Blue Tour" plays in St. Paul on Sunday, July 25, when Team USA will take on the Mexican National Team. The team will play more than a dozen other national and local teams as they tour 10 additional states throughout U S WEST's territory.

U S WEST is the title sponsor of USA Baseball's "Red, White and Blue Tour" through the Year 2000. The tour prepares Team USA to qualify and represent the United States in the Olympic Summer Games in Sydney, Australia, in 2000. Team USA will train and play a schedule of home and away games against international teams to prepare for the summer's major international competition.

USA Baseball and U S WEST will team up to bring other exciting events to fans of Olympic baseball, including post-game fireworks shows, premium giveaway nights, post-game concerts and a number of other promotional activities. As an extension of U S WEST's community outreach programs, there will also be free one-hour, on-field youth clinics at all of the U S WEST -- Team USA Tour stops in 1999 and 2000. Team USA coaches and players will serve as clinic instructors, helping young people improve their skills and increasing interest in America's favorite pastime.

USA Baseball is the National Governing Body of amateur baseball in the United States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee. The organization selects and trains the USA Baseball National Team, the USA Baseball Junior Team (18 and under) and the USA Baseball Youth National Team (16 and under) for participation in various international competitions each year. Almost 100 current Major League Baseball players have come through the USA Baseball program.
