Vic: Navy frigate sails for new home near Perth

MELBOURNE, Feb 15 AAP - One of the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) newest warships,
HMAS Arunta, leaves Melbourne today for its new base at Fleet Base West, near Perth.

The Anzac class frigate, named after a central Australian Aboriginal people, will sail
from Melbourne's station pier about 9am (AEDT), the Defence Department said.

The Arunta was built at Tenix Defence Systems, Williamstown, and was commissioned into
the RAN in December 1998.

It is one of eight Anzac class frigates built over the past decade.
